Main maintenance standards for ball mills

2026-03-12

Ball mills are the mainstay of mineral processing equipment, suitable for grinding various materials. Ball mills can be divided into two main categories: dry grinding and wet grinding. Based on the discharge method, they are further classified into grate type and overflow type.

Main maintenance standards for ball mills

1. The machined surfaces of the two bearing bases should be on the same horizontal plane, with a center-to-center distance tolerance of 1mm, a longitudinal centerline non-parallelism deviation of 0.5mm, and a transverse centerline deviation of 0.5mm per meter.

2. The spherical contact surfaces of the bearing seats should have uniform contact angles; at least 1-2 points per 50x50mm²; the contact surfaces between the hollow shaft and the bearing should be 90°-100° with at least 2 points per square inch, and the clearance between the journal and both sides of the bearing should be approximately the same.

3. The mating surfaces of the cylinder flange and the front end cover should ensure good contact, without the use of gaskets. The allowable tolerance for misalignment between the two hollow shafts should be less than 0.8mm. When connecting and assembling the large gear ring and the cylinder end cover, a firm thrust should be used, and locating pins should be installed. The radial runout of the gear ring should not exceed 0.5mm, and the axial runout should not exceed 0.84mm.

4. When installing ball mill liners, the end caps should be installed first, followed by the cylinder liners from the inlet. Installation should be carried out according to specifications, ensuring all screws are tightened evenly to prevent leaks. The rubber liners should fit without gaps; any gaps should be sealed with sponge.

5. The centerline of the pinion and gear should be parallel, with a deviation of no more than 0.2mm per meter. The tooth tip clearance should be 1/4 module, the tooth flank clearance 1.06-1.8mm, the tooth surface contact area no less than 50% of the tooth length, and the tooth height 40%.

6. The transmission couplings of the reducer, motor, and drive shaft should maintain a high degree of coaxiality, with a centerline misalignment of no more than 0.3mm and a centerline inclination of less than 1/1000.
