What is titanium concentrate? Can it be ground using a Raymond mill?
Titanium concentrate refers to a titanium dioxide (TiO₂)-rich concentrate extracted from ilmenite or titanomagnetite through a mineral processing process. Typically containing 40%-50% TiO₂, it is a key raw material for the production of titanium dioxide, titanium sponge, and other titanium products. Its particle size is generally coarse, requiring further crushing to meet subsequent process requirements.
Analysis on the applicability of Raymond mill in titanium concentrate processing

1. Process adaptability
The acid hydrolysis reaction of titanium concentrate requires that the ore powder fineness should reach 325 mesh sieve residue ≤ 1.5%, and the particle size distribution should be uniform. Raymond mill is a dry mechanical crushing equipment, which can stably produce titanium concentrate powder that meets the particle size requirements through the rolling action of grinding rollers and grinding rings, combined with a wind classification system.
Typical process flow:
Titanium concentrate → bucket elevator → silo → feeder → Raymond mill → cyclone separator → pneumatic conveying → ore powder storage tank
2. Equipment advantages
High efficiency and low energy consumption: Compared to universal mills and jet mills, Raymond mills offer high output and low energy consumption. For example, the 4R3216 Raymond mill is widely used in titanium dioxide production and was later upgraded to the GKLM series vertical mill to meet production capacity requirements.
Particle size control: The built-in classifier can dynamically adjust the fineness (80-600 mesh), and the finished product has uniform particle size with less coarse particles.
Wide applicability: It can process materials with Mohs hardness ≤ 7 (such as ilmenite), and the humidity needs to be controlled within 6%.

3. Optimization of improved Raymond mill
To address the powder collection efficiency issues of traditional Raymond mills, the new equipment improves performance through the following designs:
Sorting mechanism: adopt a new sorting system to improve the accuracy of fineness sorting.
Negative pressure circulation system: Recover flying powder through bag dust collector to reduce material loss.

4. Practical Application Cases
Titanium dioxide production: Raymond mill is widely used for primary crushing of ilmenite (particle size 325 mesh) and crushing of titanic acid after calcination.
Process optimization: A titanium concentrate beneficiation plant adjusted the Raymond mill parameters (such as analyzer speed) to make the product particle size distribution more concentrated and improve the acid hydrolysis rate.
