Types and Applications of Magnetic Separators
Magnetic separators are essential equipment in mineral processing enterprises, typically used for the fine selection of magnetic minerals and for removing impurities from non-metallic materials. These machines come in many types and have a wide range of applications; the following is a brief overview of the types and applications of magnetic separators.

Types of Magnetic Separators
Magnetic separators are mainly classified according to the type of magnetic field, magnetic field strength, separation medium, and structural characteristics of the separation mechanism.
1. Classification by Magnetic Field Type
(1) Constant Magnetic Field Separator: The magnitude and direction of the magnetic field in this machine do not change with time. The magnetic source is a magnet or a DC electromagnet.
(2) Rotating Magnetic Field Separator: The magnitude and direction of the magnetic field in this machine change with time. The magnetic source is generally a magnet rotating around an axis with alternating polarity.
(3) Alternating Magnetic Field Separator: The magnitude and direction of the magnetic field in this machine change with time. The magnetic source is an AC electromagnet.
(4) Pulsating Magnetic Field Separator: The magnitude of the magnetic field in this machine changes with time, but its direction does not change. The magnetic source is an electromagnet that is simultaneously powered by AC and DC current.
2. Classification by magnetic field strength:
(1) Weak magnetic field separator: The magnetic induction intensity on the surface of the magnetic poles is 0.1-0.2T.
(2) Medium magnetic field separator: The magnetic induction intensity on the surface of the magnetic poles is 0.2-0.5T.
(3) Strong magnetic field separator: The magnetic induction intensity on the surface of the magnetic poles is 0.5-2T.
3. Classification by separation medium:
(1) Dry magnetic separator: The separation medium is air.
(2) Wet magnetic separator: The separation medium is water or magnetic liquid. Magnetic separators using magnetic liquid as the medium are called magnetic fluid magnetic separators.
4. Classification by Sorting Mechanism
Magnetic separators can be classified according to their sorting mechanism, including cylindrical, belt, roller, disc, and ring types.

Applications of Magnetic Separators
Magnetic separators have a wide range of applications, the scope of which mainly depends on the magnetic properties and particle size of the ore being processed. For strongly magnetic ores, large pieces (350-10mm) are treated with magnetic drums, medium-sized pieces (5-0mm) with dry-type weak magnetic field separators or rotary magnetic field separators, and small pieces (3-0mm, 1.5-0mm) with wet-type magnetic separators, magnetic desliming troughs, and magnetic agglomeration gravity separators. For weakly magnetic ores, coarse and medium-sized pieces (40-0mm) are treated with dry-type induction roller strong magnetic field separators, small pieces (2-0mm) with dry-type disc or wet-type roller strong magnetic field separators, fine pieces (0.4-0mm, 0.25-0mm) with wet-type ring strong magnetic field separators, and ultra-fine pieces (0.10-0mm) with high-gradient magnetic separators.
