Specific application scenarios after Wuyan processing
Basalt processed products, with their high strength, high temperature resistance and other properties, cover six high value-added fields from building materials, metallurgy to environmental protection and new energy, becoming the “universal stone” of modern industry.
Specific application scenarios after basalt processing
Products processed by vertical mills (such as powders and granules of different particle sizes) have the characteristics of high strength, high temperature resistance, abrasion resistance, and good chemical stability, and are widely used in many industries. Specific application scenarios include:
1. Building materials
● Basalt fiber and products: Ultrafine basalt powder (such as fiber grade, diameter ≤10μm) is the core raw material for producing continuous basalt fiber. The fiber can be used to reinforce concrete, make fireproof boards, thermal insulation materials, composite materials (such as ships and automotive parts), etc.
● Asphalt concrete aggregate: Basalt crushed stone with medium particle size (such as 0-5mm, 5-10mm) is a high-quality aggregate for asphalt concrete of high-grade highways and airport runways due to its high strength and wear resistance, improving the road surface’s resistance to compression and rutting.
● Cement admixture: Micro powder (such as 200-400 mesh) can be used as cement admixture to improve the fluidity and strength of cement and reduce production costs.
● Building decoration materials: Basalt slabs, floor tiles, and carvings, which take advantage of their natural texture and hardness and are used for indoor and outdoor decoration, combining beauty and durability.
2. Metallurgy and Refractory Materials
● Blast furnace ironmaking auxiliary materials: High-hardness basalt particles (such as 10-30mm) can be used as flux in the ironmaking process to reduce slag viscosity and improve smelting efficiency.
● Refractory bricks and furnace lining materials: Basalt has good high-temperature stability and can be processed into refractory aggregates for the production of refractory bricks and castables for blast furnaces and kilns, with a high temperature resistance of over 1500°C.
● Foundry sand: Basalt sand of specific particle size, used for metal casting and shaping to improve the precision and surface quality of castings.
3. Environmental protection and filter materials
● Sewage treatment filter media: Crushed and screened basalt particles with high porosity and strong adsorption properties are used as fillers in biological filters and aeration tanks, or as sewage filtration media.
● Desulfurization and denitrification agent: Basalt powder (such as 325 mesh) is used as an adsorbent in the flue gas desulfurization process to absorb harmful gases such as SO₂ and NOx.
● Soil conditioner: Micronized basalt can adjust soil pH, provide trace elements, and improve soil structure. It is suitable for agriculture and landscaping.
4. Chemical Industry and New Materials
● Filler and reinforcing agent: Ultrafine basalt powder is used as filler in rubber, plastic and coating to enhance the mechanical strength and wear resistance of the materials.
● Catalyst carrier: Basalt micropowder with high specific surface area is used as a carrier material for chemical catalysts to improve catalytic efficiency.
● Battery materials: Some basalt components (such as silicon, aluminum, etc.) can be processed into precursors of battery electrode materials and used in the new energy field.
5. Transportation and Infrastructure
● Railway ballast: Crushed-grade basalt (e.g. 20-50mm) is used for railway subgrades. Its high strength and impact resistance ensure track stability.
● Tunnel support materials: Basalt fiber reinforced shotcrete, used for tunnel and mine support to improve project safety.
● Water conservancy protection projects: Basalt crushed stone and prefabricated blocks are used for dam slope protection and river management, and are resistant to water erosion and freeze-thaw cycles.
6. Other emerging applications
● 3D printing materials: Basalt powder can be used as 3D printing raw material for ceramics or composite materials to manufacture high-strength structural parts.
● Acoustic materials: Porous basalt panels are used in building sound-absorbing walls and sound barriers to improve the sound environment.
● Aerospace materials: Basalt fiber composite materials are used in the manufacture of aircraft and spacecraft components due to their light weight and high strength properties.
