Installation and Adjustment Precautions for Rotary Drum Dryers

2026-01-30

For rotary drum dryers, installation is a crucial step that requires attention to many aspects. Accurate installation is essential to ensure smooth completion of subsequent tasks. Specifically, pay attention to the following four issues:

1. To ensure the cylinder’s tilt meets requirements after installation, the key is to guarantee the accurate difference in elevation between the high and low support roller bases. This elevation difference can be found in the drawings or calculated using the following formula:

Elevation difference = Center distance of support rollers (mm) × Tilt percentage (mm). When measuring, a water pipe connector can be used to determine the horizontal position of the lower support roller base foundation. Adding this to the elevation difference gives the elevation of the higher support roller base foundation.

2. Support roller installation must ensure the axis of the support rollers has the same tilt as the cylinder’s centerline. A wedge-shaped template made of hardwood according to the cylinder’s tilt can be placed on the rollers. A spirit level can then be placed on the wedge for measurement. After the support rollers are installed, the dryer should be placed on top. The contact between the support rollers and the roller ring should be measured using a lead weight method, and the dryer support rollers should be further adjusted.

3. The large gear should be installed after the cylinder is in place. The method is as follows: First, manufacture four sets of auxiliary tools with left and right threaded screws. Distribute these tools evenly around the circumference of the cylinder and spot weld them in place for temporary fixation of the large gear. Within the allowable range of radial and end face runout, mark the drilling positions for the spring plate according to the holes on the cylinder. After drilling, tighten with screws, or weld the spring plate directly to the cylinder. Then remove the auxiliary tools.

4. Adjustment of cylinder runout. When the dryer is running, the end face of the roller should not frequently contact the guide roller, or only be allowed slight contact. If the cylinder runs upwards and contacts the upper guide roller, add machine oil to the roller. At this time, the cylinder should be able to run downwards and move away from the upper guide roller. Conversely, if the cylinder runs downwards and contacts the lower guide roller, sprinkle a little fine sand on the roller. Soon the cylinder will also stop running downwards, and the roller will gradually move away from the lower guide roller.

If the cylinder moves excessively, it needs to be corrected by rotating the axis of the towing wheel (adjusting the set screw) while it is in a horizontal position. The method is as follows: Draw an arrow on the surface of the towing wheel with chalk, so that the arrow points in the direction of rotation of the towing wheel. After rotating the axis of the towing wheel clockwise or counterclockwise, if the arrow tilts downward, the cylinder will move downward; otherwise, it will move upward.
