Common causes and solutions for flotation column failures
A flotation column, also known as an aerated flotation machine, primarily functions by compressing air and passing it through a porous medium to aerate and agitate the slurry. With societal development, flotation machines are increasingly widely used in industrial production. Therefore, the use and maintenance of flotation machines have become crucial issues we must address.

The slurry is fed evenly into the flotation column through the feed pipe. Before this, ventilation is introduced into the aeration pipe to ensure the machinery is functioning correctly. Then, clean water is added to the column until it covers the aeration pipe and flows out from the gate of the tailings connection pipe. At this point, the slurry is fed in, and water supply is stopped. When the discharge and feed rates reach equilibrium, the machine can enter normal production.
The healthy operation of the flotation column is closely related to the feed rate, air volume, and air pressure. Therefore, we should pay close attention to changes in these factors during production to prevent the following situations:

1. Rupture of the air pipe or excessive air pressure causing agitation. In such cases, the air pressure should be adjusted as soon as possible. If the symptoms are not resolved, the machine should be stopped immediately, and the cause of the malfunction in the aeration pipe should be thoroughly investigated.
2. If the ore particle size is too coarse, impurities are not removed in time, or the feed rate is severely uneven, the tailings pipe may become blocked. Therefore, during installation, a high-pressure water pipe or high-pressure air pipe should be pre-installed at the bottom of the discharge pipe. If a blockage occurs, high-pressure water or high-pressure air can be used to clear it. Resolve the problem promptly. 3. Low foam production. This is mainly caused by insufficient air volume or problems with the reagent formulation; appropriate adjustments will resolve the issue.
The normal shutdown sequence for a flotation column is as follows: First, stop feeding the ore, appropriately close the tailings pipe gate and inject clean water to remove mineralization foam, stop dosing and water injection, open all tailings gates, discharge all slurry, and rinse with clean water. Only after these steps are completed can the ventilation be stopped.
